NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - When the Mardi Gras ball drops, that little black dress just won't do and the ladies at Chatta Box Boutique know exactly what's in style.

"Long sleeves are trending right now, transparent dressing for the backs, they might have some beadwork, shoulders, rhinestones, two pieces and like a sparkly bodice embellished on top," says April Stolf, Stylist.

Expect to see bright colors and bold designs, it wouldn’t be a Mardi Gras ball without drama.

"Turquoise, reds, nudes with all the extra beading that's on there so it creates that illuminessence. Also some purples, cut-outs are popular right now too, triangles some might have squares and show a little bit of skin and everyone looks so different in a dress so that's how it's easy to choose which one is for the person coming in," says Stolf.

Alterations are the best way to personalize your dress to your personal silhouette. "Don't let the dress wear you, you wear the dress!"

Once you pick out the perfect Mardi Gras ball gown, next you have to find the perfect accessories and shoes.

"You don't want to have something that's going to go with the dress, it's part of the dress… Whether it's your bracelet or neckline, if it's your gloves, you really want to be prepared for the ball."

Attention to detail never hurt, but even the professionals agree the greatest accessory is a smile.

"Just wear everything with confidence, you'll always stand out with confidence," says Stolf.

Chatta Box Boutique is located in Metairie, LA.
