NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Many people have Saints jerseys and most of them bear the names of Drew Brees, Marques Colston or Jimmy Graham. But when was the last time you saw a Thomas Morstead jersey? The Saints Punter is one of the most popular players but good luck trying to find his jersey!
Jason Seidman is a man on a mission. He’s excited to get the word out about his favorite Saint. He created a petition to encourage local stores to carry Morstead’s jersey.
Morstead’s official jersey is only available online.
“People message me on social media all the time just saying, ‘Hey where can I get your jersey?’ and I say I just order mine online like anybody else,” says Punter Thomas Morstead.
Shops in the New Orleans area say Nike isn’t seeing a demand for the jersey on the national level so it’s not making them in bulk.
“It’s all a business. It has nothing personally to do with any player. If I could, I would put every player up on this wall,” says Black & Gold shop owner Pam Randazza.
The Black & Gold Shop in Metairie says although people ask for the Morstead jersey, it’s top sellers are Brees, Graham and Vaccaro. Jason Seidman hopes if he gets enough signatures, Nike, the NFL and local stores will listen. So far, Jason has gathered more than 400 of the 10,000 needed.
Meanwhile, the Saints say they’ll start carrying the jersey in team’s shop at the Superdome. They will be available starting with the first home game against the Vikings on September 21, 2014.
