San Diego, CA (KSWB) — A wrong-way driver was in custody after colliding into a group of 20 cyclists on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Tuesday evening.
The collision happened at 6:30 p.m. on Fiesta Island Road and left one woman rider with broken bones and internal injuries, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros. Eight other riders were injured, one suffered broken ribs, a fractured vertebrae and internal injuries.
A 49-year-old driver, suspected of being under the influence of drugs, was taken to a hospital and she was expected to face drugged driving charges upon her release, authorities said.
Seven riders sustained minor to moderate injuries, he said.
None of the people involved in the crash were identified.
