St Tammany deputies announced the arrest of a man named John Edward Green in connection with a series of burglaries in neighboring Tangipahoa Parish.

According to deputies, Green got his nickname by climbing onto the rooftops of businesses before burglarizing them.

St Tammany deputies say they spotted Green Thursday evening in the Abita  Nursery subdivision.  They say he took off running into other nearby neighborhoods.  They say he also broke into a church, hoping to hide there.

Deputies used trained dogs to follow Green to a bus near Claiborne Hill where, they say, he was naked and hiding.

The chase continued, they say, to the Bogue Falaya River where a dog was able to grab on to Green.  But Green is accused of trying to pull the dog under the water to drown it as well as a deputy who jumped into the river to make the arrest.

Deputies say they took a naked Green to jail where he will face the original charges in Tangipahoa as well as attempted murder charges of both the officer and police dog in St Tammany as well as a burglary charge in connection with the church break-in.
