NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - A Carrollton volunteer helping children get ready for the school year found herself in the center of a holdup Monday.
The New Orleans Police Department reported the suspect came up from behind the woman near Monroe and Cohn Streets by Sophie B. Wright Charter School, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money.
The robbery happened in broad daylight as the volunteer was on her way to a church back-to-school function.
Tied to oxygen and unable to help, a neighbor could only watch as the suspect stole money from the woman with good intentions, “She’s doing something for God as well. Helping the children. Come on, man. That’s stupid. I’m hoping they get something on him. That robbery is too close for comfort.”
Police describe the suspect as a man in his mid-20’s, about 5’4” thin with a white bandana covering his face.
There’s a cash reward to anyone who can help bring the armed suspect to justice.
