NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – More than half-a-million people attended the 20th anniversary of ESSENCE Festival this weekend in New Orleans, blasting previous attendance records.

Organizers say more than 550,000 people flocked to the four day event featuring 80 artists and over 150 speakers including Prince, Lionel Richie, Steve Harvey, and Robin Roberts.

‪”Through a unique combination of entertainment and empowerment programming, the ESSENCE Festival has become the place where we come together to revel in culture and connect to our community,” said ESSENCE Communications President Michelle Ebanks.

For the first time in ESSEINCE  history all daytime and nighttime experiences were accessible online where Ebank said more than 11.5 million people login and watched.
