Algiers Carjacking Victim Slapped Suspect’s Gun, Escaped Without Injury

police-tape-2008-11-17-300×300ALGIERS (WGNO) – A man who gave two women a lift home found himself in the middle of a carjacking early Wednesday morning, the New Orleans Police Department said.

The victim told police he dropped an acquaintance and her friend off at the intersection of Homer St. and Belleville St. around 1:30 a.m. Once the women left a man with a white bandanna around his face approached the victim and demanded everything in his pockets, including his car keys.

The victim told police he then slapped the gun out of the suspect’s hand and ran. The suspect fired at the victim several times but did not hit him.  When the victim felt safe he called police.

The suspect did however, drive off in the victim’s gold 2000 GMC Yukon.

The victim also noticed that the women were no longer in the area.
