Akilah Monifa wasn’t a foodie until she lost 222 pounds. She started with small changes. She gave up diet soda first. At her heaviest, Monifa weighed over 400 pounds. She says there was no one moment when she realized she needed to lose weight. Her friends have been completely supportive during her journey; they’ve even drawn out walking maps for her. This photo was taken after she completed a 15,000 step walk that includes the steep steps at Coit Tower in San Francisco. She says she feels better than ever.
