NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A man was reaching for his cell phone Saturday when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed through a guardrail on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.
Upon seeing the incident several motorists stopped. And one man jumped overboard to rescue the driver.
“He kept screaming help me, help me, help me, I said, you’re fine, you’re gonna be alright, you’re alive,” good Samaritan, Al Pike, told Good Morning America.
“He was very upset with himself, he said, I just ruin everything, I said, you’re fine, you’re alive, that’s the only thing that matters, you’re gonna be OK.”
The driver, who was not identified, was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Pike remains humble, “I’m pretty sure that anybody would’ve done the same thing,” he said.
