The Archdiocese of New Orleans launched the “Where Y’at?” app Tuesday aimed at making it easier for locals and visitors to find one of the 118 Catholic parishes and mission churches in New Orleans.
“This app makes it easy for both visitors to our city and locals to find a time and place to reconnect spiritually and experience God’s presence in His house,” said Sarah McDonald, Director of the Office of Communications for the archdiocese.
Using GPS the app allows users to quickly search for nearby Churches by parish or by time of day they wish to attend Mass.
In addition, the app can create a digital invitation to remind users’ friends and neighbors that Mass is always open to them, even providing details and even directions for those looking to attend.
“With this app, no matter ‘Where Y’at,’ users will be able to find a mass time and church in the Archdiocese of New Orleans,” a press release states.
It’s the second app to be released by the Archdiocese. The Faith and Family app, the first app, was launched in November of 2012 and has received 739 downloads since its release.
“We continue to look for ways to utilize new media and technology in the way we communicate our faith and offer opportunities to live it every day,” said McDonald.
