NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - Time is running out for the Lower 9th Ward Village before it forecloses in two weeks.
That’s where rapper Lil Wayne opened an indoor skate park, but the skate park and the center are closed because the overall facility is in poor condition.
The executive director of the Lower 9th Ward Village says its aim is to provide job training, after school programs, music and art, something that’s been a struggle since hurricane Katrina.
“The community is still suffering even 9 years later because it’s not authentically done,” Mack McClendon said. “It should have been done in the beginning. But it’s a situation where you can’t let it die simply because it’s needed so bad.”
The Village needs to raise $75,000.
If you’d like to help, there’s a benefit concert next Friday (May 23). Click HERE for more information.
