Voodoo Myths and Mystique in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - "There's so many misconceptions about Voodoo that I would say to just forget anything you've ever heard or seen about it and start from scratch," warns Priestess Sallie Ann Glassman of the Island of Salvation Botanica.

Dispelling the myths alongside her, Jerry Gandolfo of the Historic Voodoo Museum in New Orleans and Priestess Miriam of the Voodoo Spiritual Temple lay open the roots of many of the misconceptions.

New Orleans being home to a unique brand of voodoo, they also delve into the cultural connections associated with jazz, Mardi Gras, Catholicism, and even architecture in New Orleans.

Voodoo is not what you think it is.  It's a religion based on healing and spiritual connection, not full of orgies and dances in the swamps.
