THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) - The Thibodaux Tigers have some extra oomph in their plays. They’re on a high courtesy of Thibodaux High Alumni Greg Robinson AKA “Big Greg.”
“Big Greg, well if you see him you would have to call him Big Greg. I mean he’s huge! Good kid; he’s a big kid, but just so agile for his size,” explain Athletic Director Tony Clark.
Robinson graduated from Thibodaux High in 2011. Now the Auburn star could make history on Thursday by becoming the first Thibodaux High alum to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Thibodaux High Football Head Coach Chris Dugas says, “We’ve had a couple of NFL guys here, but never a guy of that type of magnitude.”
Dugas says early on he knew Robinson was special.
“Just a freak of an athlete; I mean the things that he can do most humans can’t do. At his size the speed that he has, the athletic ability he has; he’s just a one of a kind type athlete.”
Several NFL analysts expect the 6-foot-5 332lb standout to go in the first round of the NFL Draft, most likely among the top six picks.
And while he’s miles away in New York City anticipating a life changing moment, he’s still making a difference back at home.
“It motivates me,” says Thibodaux High Junior Chris Bryant, “I know that I could get there and I could be in his shoes when I get older.”
“It makes me proud walking around Thibodaux,” says Thibodaux High Junior Peyton Bonvillain, “Just to know that he’s going to the NFL and also Trovon Reed who made it to Auburn; it makes me want to get there and get in their shoes.”
“It’s just exciting for us that we could see somebody that we put a hand on that we can say maybe we were a part of this,” says Clark.
