Elderly Man Arrested after a Fatal Hit & Run in Kenner

The Kenner Police Department has arrested Richard Gallois, 84, of Kenner, concerning the fatality involving a pedestrian which occurred at 8:57 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the 3800 block of Williams Boulevard.

Police say Gallois was driving a 2003 Lexus 300, northbound on Williams Boulevard, when he struck Jacoba Velasquez Gomez, 60 of Kenner.  Gallois was approaching 38th Street from Williams Boulevard, when he struck Gomez who was crossing the roadway.  The intersection does not have an established crosswalk or any traffic control device. Gallois struck Gomez with the front of his vehicle.  Gomez was projected onto the hood of the vehicle and into the front windshield.  Gallois briefly stopped his vehicle on the roadway then left the scene traveling to 39th Street where he made a u-turn and passed the crash scene again, as he traveled south on Williams Boulevard.

Gallois left the area and at 10:03 p.m., he and his attorney contacted the Kenner Police Department to report his involvement in the crash.

Gomez’s death was pronounced on scene.  An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2014.

Richard Gallois was charged with the crime of felony hit and run involving a fatality. He has since been released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.  Bond was set at $10,000.00
