Earlier this year the New Orleans city council scrapped a proposed noise ordinance that raised concerns for people on both sides of the issue.

The council will now look at a new proposal it hopes will satisfy everyone.

Item number 89 on Thursday’s city council agenda calls to amend the current noise ordinance.

The council will consider establishing new decibel caps, raising the fine to $5000 and shift enforcement from the N.O.P.D. to the Health Department.

The city will also attempt to differentiate sounds by frequency and also decriminalize noise infractions to just a fine only.
