VIDEO: Tulane Football Recruit Arrested on Rape Charges
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - A West Jefferson High School senior and Tulane University star football recruit was arrested on rape charges Tuesday, according to New Orleans police.
The alleged incident happened early April 14th.
Police say the 18-year-old victim was introduced to two unknown males by a friend. After a night of drinking she went back to a dorm room, watched a movie and had consensual sex with one of the men.
The victim told police she fell asleep, but “upon awaking she was sexually assaulted against her will by the other male.”
The investigation is on-going.
Tulane University has released the following statement:
“Niguel Q. ‘Teddy’ Veal, a Tulane University freshman from Harvey La., and a member of the Green Wave football team, has been suspended from the team. The suspension, effective immediately, was implemented after Veal was arrested and charged with simple rape. Federal law prohibits the university from disclosing any disciplinary action taken against a student regarding his or her enrollment in the university.”
Niguel Veal, 17, is currently senior at West Jefferson High School.
He received offers from Ole Miss, Western Kentucky and SMU, before committing to Tulane in September 2013.
