Tigers Pound 15 Hits, Beat Southern Miss in Pontiff Classic

NCAA College World Series – LSU v Texas – Game Two

The LSU Tigers are hot. Hopefully they can stay that way in a key weekend series at Ole Miss.

The Tigers pounded out 15 hits Tuesday and beat Southern Miss 13-5 at Zephyr Field. The game was the 11th in the Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation Classic.

Head coach Paul Mainieri watched his Tigers win their 8th game in their last 9 outings.

LSU scored 3 runs in the first, four in the fourth, and three more in the 7th.

Christian Ibarra’s two run double in the fourth broke the game open.

Ibarra was 2 for 3 with 4 runs batted in. Andrew Stevenson had hits in all 4 trips to the plate, and drove in two.

“This was a good night for us,” said head coach Paul Mainieri. “We got to use a lot of players, and we generated some offense.”

LSU used 6 pitchers, none throwing more than 2 innings. Henri Faucheux got the final out of the third and three more outs in the 4th to pick up his 3rd win against no defeats.

LSU is now 28-9-1 on the season.

Ace Aaron Nola will pitch for LSU at Ole Miss Thursday night in the first game of the three game series.

First pitch is 6:30 p.m. The game will be nationally televised.
