DOUGLAS (KPHO) — A Mexican national was arrested Friday after federal officers found marijuana hidden in all five of his SUV’s tires.
His vehicle was selected for inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Douglas.
The 31-year-old man from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico was arrested.
The drugs weighed more than 213 pounds. They were worth an estimated $106,500.
The man’s vehicle was seized and he was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
On Sunday, officers referred a 48-year-old man from Sonora, Mexico for further inspection of his pickup truck.
A CBP narcotics dog alerted officers to the man’s truck tires, where nearly 98 pounds of marijuana was concealed. The drugs had an estimated value of $49,000.
The man was arrested and his truck was seized.
