Bring out your inner fashionista. Fashion Week New Orleans is back!
On the runway it’s all about the fabrics: bold prints, metallics, the barely there look and revealing necklines.
“When I first started this I had a little trepidation about maybe being able to keep it fresh and exciting and bringing in new designers, but it has kind of come together,” says founder Tracee Dundas.
Dundas founded Fashion Week New Orleans in 2011 as a ways for up and coming designers in the area to create a name for themselves.
New Orleans resident and designer Lauren Ospina says, “The only other fashion show I’ve ever done has been for school. I just forget this is a competition because I’m just glad I get to see it walk down the runway.
It’s really important for my life right now.”Baton Rouge based designer Nikki Manuel says, “It’s a wonderful feeling to see a concept that has evolved as far as from one piece to a full collection, and just trying to work through the pieces so you can have a cohesive line and rock the runway.”
Former Saint Malcolm Jenkins with Roc Avenue Bow ties says, “I definitely wanted to be a part of it this year; put my line out there in to the fashion world and then get the sense of what the fashion life is. It’s a different world from what I’m used to.”
Jenkins says he may be leaving New Orleans, but he plans to continue to have property here, saying in his five years with the Saints he won a Super Bowl, met his wife and had a baby.
As we dive into Spring the professionals say wear bright colors, florals, and anything bold.
