Pelicans falter in the fourth, lose to Grizzlies
The Pelicans three game win streak ended thanks to a cold second half.
New Orleans scored 31 second half points, 14 in the fourth quarter in a 90-88 loss to Memphis Wednesday night at the Smoothie King Center.
New Orleans was playing without guards Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans. Both missed the game with illness.
Mike Conley’s drive and floater in the lane win it for Memphis with 1.5 seconds to play. The Pelicans, out of time outs, had to settle for a game ending heave by Austin Rivers that fell short.
The Pelicans were outscored 23-14 in the fourth quarter.
“We just couldn’t score,” said head coach Monty Williams.
Anthony Davis scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for New Orleans. Off the bench, Austin Rivers scored 14 points and handed out 9 assists.
The Pelicans lost despite making all 22 free throw attempts.
New Orleans hosts Portland Friday night.
