On signing day optimism abounds, but for LSU and Tulane that optimism seems to be well founded.

The Tigers landed the nation’s top wide receiver, John Curtis Christian school’s Malachi Dupre Wednesday, on the way to landing the #2 recruiting class in the country behind Alabama.

That ranking comes via

LSU signed 22, including the nation’s top running back prospect, St Aug’s Leonard Fournette.

For the first time, LSU head coach Les Miles was able to speak about Fournette publicly. Miles asked if Fournette’s declaration that he wanted to win the Heisman Trophy as a true freshman was too ambitious?

“We have seen freshman win it. Johnny Manziel was a redshirt freshman. This guy from Florida State, was a first year quarterback, starter,” said Miles, “And, he wins the Heisman. It would be nice to have some national awards considered with freshman with the Tigers.”

Tulane signed 24 including 12 from the metro area. “This is by far the best class that we’ve had, and you can tell by the schools that we had to recruit against,” said head coach Curtis Johnson. “ I would say that we weren’t always recruiting against the big Top 10 schools, but some of them did come in at the end and our guys held steady.”
