Friday night, the ABC News program 20/20 focused on the problem of kids and guns.

Just like other parts of the country, southeast Louisiana has had too many cases of kids finding guns and accidentally shooting themselves or someone else.

The NRA uses a program that includes a cartoon character named Eddie the Eagle to help get the most basic of gun safety messages to kids.  The program instructs kids — should they find a gun — to stop, don’t touch it, leave the area, and find an adult.

To follow the 20/20 report Friday night, WGNO News interviewed a certified NRA instructor about teaching gun safety to kids.  We also spoke with a man and his son about the topic.
