NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)–We’re three weeks into the Swerve 31-day sugar detox challenge.
Molly’s five tips to beat sugar cravings:
- Eat a small meal or snack every 3-4 hours
- Incorporate a source of protein and some fat with each meal and snack
- Stay well hydrated
- Aim for at least 7 hours of sleep
- Incorporate regular exercise
5 supplements that can give you the extra edge to combat sugar cravings:
Multivitamin. Nutrient deficiencies can make cravings worse, so taking a good quality multivitamin can serve as ‘insurance’ that there are no deficiencies.
Protein. Incorporating 10-25 grams protein via protein powder or whole foods can help to keep you feeling fuller longer, plus minimize blood sugar fluctuations and carb cravings.
Chromium. 200-400 mcg chromium picolinate twice daily can help to stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels.
Alpha lipoic acid. 200-500 mg alpha lipoic acid twice daily can improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control.
L-glutamine. Supplementing with 500 to 1,000 mg L-glutamine three times daily can help to reduce cravings by helping to stabilize blood sugar levels, as the brain uses L-glutamine for fuel.
