Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points as the Dallas Mavericks beat the New Orleans Pelicans 100-97 Wednesday night at New Orleans Arena. The loss ended a three game Pelicans win streak, all on the road.
The Pelicans, playing their third game without star forward Anthony Davis, wasted a 16 point, 21 rebound effort from forward Al-Farouq Aminu.
New Orleans lost despite a 58-38 rebounding edge.
Jrue Holiday led all scorers with 26 points. His three point basket with 1:28 remaining tied the game at 97. But, the Pelicans went scoreless the rest of the game.
Nowitzki made three of four free throws down the stretch to seal Dallas’ win.
The Pelicans fell to 9-9 on the season, 5-4 at home. New Orleans hosts Oklahoma City Friday night at New Orleans Arena.
