LSU says Mettenberger to miss bowl game with knee injury

MettenbergerZach Mettenberger’s next snap will likely be in the National Football League.

LSU said Wednesday in a news release that the senior quarterback will miss the Tigers’ upcoming bowl game with an unspecified knee injury.

The school said not being specific on injuries is consistent with team policy. ESPN reported the injury is a torn ACL suffered in the fourth quarter of last Friday’s win over Arkansas.

Anthony Jennings, a true freshman, quarterback LSU on a game winning 99 yard drive in the closing minutes.

In 2013, Mettenberger became the third LSU passer to throw for 3,000 plus yards (3,082) in a season. He also threw 22 touchdown passes, and completed 64.9 percent of his passes.

“We are disappointed for Zach,” said LSU head coach Les Miles in the news release. “He’s been a tremendous leader for our team and he’s as competitive a guy as I have ever been around. He had a great impact on our program.”
