NOPD Officer Fires At 21-Year-Old After Man Points A Gun At Police

This morning, NOPD Fifth District Narcotics Detectives arrested 21-year-old Ronald Warren in the 1200 block of Louisa Street after he attempted to rob someone in the 4000 block of North Rampart Street in Bywater.

On Sunday, December 1, 2013, at 1:49am, Detectives Troy Williams Jr and Joshua Carwile were patrolling in the area when they heard the dispatched call of an attempted armed robbery in the 4000 block of North Rampart Street. Detectives observed a suspect matching the description of the broadcasted perpetrator near the intersection of Saint Claude and Louisa Street. Detectives Williams and Carwile attempted to speak with the suspect when he abruptly fled the area on foot. Detective Williams chased the suspect later identified as Ronald Warren when he turned and pointed a pistol at Detective Williams. Detective Williams fearing for his safety fired one round at Warren missing him. During the foot chase Warren then ran into an overgrown field in the 1200 block of Louisa Street where he was apprehended without any further incident.

Warren was positively identified by the victim of the earlier attempted robbery.

A .9mm Smith and Wesson pistol was recovered on the scene.

Warren had no prior adult arrest record.

Warren was booked into Central Lockup and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault upon a Peace Officer with a Firearm, two counts of Illegal Carrying of weapons, Flight from an Officer.
