Why Sunday’s Saints-49ers game matters more than usual

Every once in awhile, a Saint utters a morsel that is real. It came from guard Jahri Evans on Wednesday.

Nothing controversial … just fact: The New Orleans Saints are a lot better at home than they are on the road. A lot better.

Evans says he gets calls from players around the league saying they don’t want to play in New Orleans in January. The numbers speak to that. The Saints are 5-0 at home, outscoring the opposition 176 to 75.

Drew Brees has thrown 18 of his 25 touchdown passes at home. Only two of Brees’s seven interceptions have been thrown at home.

With all of this as a backdrop, let me ask you? In the playoffs in a potential Saints 49ers matchup, would you rather be indoors on carpet or outdoors on grass?

That’s why Sunday’s game carries extra weight.
