After years of hard work and patience, the home of rock and roll and blues hall of famer professor longhair is nearly complete.
Since Hurricane Katrina Longhair’s daughter and grandson have been trying to rebuild the home where they had been living.
“The Chimneys are all original and some of the structural framing is original,” Project Homecoming Director Kevin Krejci said. “The rest of it had to be re-done. The first floor had to be re-built from underneath The second floor.”
Part of the house will be used as a museum. The house plans to open this spring.
In an effort to help with the nearly $180,000 restoration effort, Tipitina’s is hosting a fund-raising tribute and concert they’re calling Fess Fest 2013.
“We also have a couple of special of guests in town including Hugh Laurie and Joe Jackson who are going to take part in the event,” Bethany Paulsen, The Tipitina’s Foundation managing director said. “It’s going to be a great night of New Orleans music, celebrating Professor Longhair’s music.”
Fess Fest is tomorrow night at the Tipitina’s on Napoleon Avenue doors open at 8:00 p.m. show starts at 9:00 p.m. this Thursday night.
