Police are searching for a smash and grab thief accused of stealing a mini-van full of LSU and Saints apparel.
WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter gives us a look at the crime, and the man believed to be the suspect.
“We’re fortunate no one was injured and no was in the store at the time,” store clerk Garrett Moore said.
Police believe a man caught on security camera video used a slab of concrete to break the front class window of Tyger Gifts.
Investigators say he then back this min-van up to the store and filled it with merchandise.
Trotter asked, nail technician Heather Truong, “Ever have any problems at your shop? No I haven’t,” she replied.
Workers at the nail shop next door are surprised to hear about the brazen burglar
Trotter asked, “Why? Because I’ve been here 5 1/2 years and nothing like that’s even happened.”
Like the Tyger Gifts located on Severn Avenue in Metairie, the Westbank location is full of Saints and LSU football appeal.
Investigators say that’s what was stolen around 5am on Halloween.
“I guess I’m not surprised that it happened on Halloween if they’re going to pick a time to do it since cops are preoccupied doing other things,” Polished customer Ashley Blackwell said.
“Because it’s the night everybody tries to sabotage everything and take what they can,” customer Vanessa Perry said.
As Jefferson Parish investigators search for the man caught on tape, staffers at Tyger Gifts are restocking shelves and getting on with the rest of the season.
“We’re back and stronger and ready for everything the rest of the season has to bring for us,” Moore said.
Investigators are reviewing security camera footage of the crime and suspect.
Anyone with information that might help police is asked to call Crimestoppers (504) 822-1111.
