LA Cancer Research Center opens in Mid-City biomedical corridor

Just in time for breast cancer awareness month a big new weapon in the war on cancer has been unveiled in New Orleans. The Louisiana Cancer Research Center is officially open at Tulane and South Claiborne Avenues.

You may have seen the cancer research center rising next to I-10 near the Superdome. Wednesday morning the dozens of cancer researchers who will be working here lined up for their official group photo as the doors opened for the first time.

Their aim is to stop cancer deaths in Louisiana, a state in which 23 people die every day with some form of cancer.

This is the first part of that massive biomedical corridor covering 24 square blocks in Mid-City you’ve been hearing so much about. The new VA Hospital and the LSU teaching hospital are still under construction nearby. They are expected to open two years from now.
