Charles Foti served for decades as the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff.  Now he may want his old job back.

A spokesperson for Foti confirms he is considering a run for sheriff, presumably against current sheriff Marlin Gusman.

If Foti makes his bid official, his decision would come as the department is building new state-of-the-art buildings but is also caught in a federal consent decree dispute with Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

Foti also served one term as Louisiana Attorney General.  He was the focus of outrage and anger by many people after pursuing charges against some of the medical staff at a New Orleans hospital for their actions in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
