No doubt, when demolition crews tore down a couple of motels on Airline Drive two years ago, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand was thrilled.

Normand led the charge for the parish to seize the properties saying they were hotbeds for criminal activity.

Now this week, Normand is once again celebrating because the former owner of the properties, Anil Patel, pleaded guilty to federal charges that he failed to report more than a million dollars in income from 2006-2009.

According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Orleans, Patel could get three years in prison.
