Anne Cutler talks to Dr. Fernando Urrego about the importance of having an “Asthma Action Plan” for kids at school and at home to prevent classroom absences.

As summer ends, the change in temperature, allergens and environment during back-to-school time can trigger an increase in mucus production as well as increased inflammation in the large and small airways of the lungs.

Asthma is a chronic condition that, when not controlled, can cause students to miss school.

Every day, an estimated 36,000 children miss school due to their asthma resulting in about 14 million lost school days every year.
