Jefferson Avenue in New Orleans is going to look pretty bare for the next 4 weeks or so.

The Army Corps of Engineers is removing all the trees and shrubs on the neutral ground.

The work is part of a $50 million dollar project to build a giant underground drainage canal along Jefferson Avenue.

After the work is done, the Corps plans to plant new trees and bushes.

Also, river-bound traffic on Jefferson will eventually have to take a detour to Nashville Avenue.
