Slidell police and the St Tammany Parish SWAT Team investigated a suspicious package discovered at a gas station.
It was found beside a gas pump. The sheriff’s office says it was a bag of fertilizer. As a precaution, the business was evacuated and a safety perimeter established.
“We don’t know if it was intended for a joke or somebody was filling up this morning and left it for no reason as a way to discard the item. I’m not sure,” said Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.
The gas station is in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart on Natchez Drive.
Even though the gas station was evacuated, the Wal-Mart remained open during the investigation.
The official all clear was given by police Tuesday afternoon.
