New Orleans police are reporting a drop in murders in the city.

According to the department, comparing second quarter statistics, murders are down nearly 35% year to year.

Other crimes like assault and auto thefts are also down but not as much.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas credits putting more officers in neighborhoods for the improved statistics.
