At the 2013 ESPY Awards, Saints quarterback Drew Brees was up for a big award … but he didn’t get it. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps beat our star quarterback to become the first athlete to twice win the ESPY award for best record-breaking performance. Phelps also won an ESPY for best male Olympian.
The swimmer broke the all-time medals record at the Olympics last year by earning 6 in London, extending his career total to 22 medals.
Brees was nominated for the best record-breaking performance award for breaking Johnny Unitas’s record for the most consecutive games with a touchdown pass.
