Have you ever heard of a baby being baptized in a ship’s bell? The Coast Guard sent us this video of an unusual tradition brought to life!

Back in the old days, babies born at sea were baptized in the ship’s bell, and then their names were engraved in the bell, meaning that child’s spirit would forever protect the ship!

In May, two Coast Guard chaplains from New Orleans baptized 5 babies born to Coast Guard enlisted officers on the Coast Guard Cutter Greenbriar in Natchez, MS. The names of two boys and┬áthree girls were engraved on the ship’s bell.
