The New Orleans Fire Department is mourning the loss of two of its members. Early Sunday morning, two off-duty firefighters were involved in a single-vehicle accident in Long Beach, Mississippi.
28-year-old Tommy Ashby had been a member of the NOFD since September 20, 2007 and 27-year-old Scott Blanchard has been with the NOFD since August 2010.,
Reports show Ashby was driving a truck at a high rate of speed, lost control, and hit a tree.
Police were called to the scene around 1:45am Sunday morning.
Both Ashby and Blanchard were declared dead on the scene.
Two other passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries.
