An Independence Day celebration was held a day early for families and friends in City Park.

Hundreds gathered Wednesday around 7 o’clock at the Goldring Woldenberg Great Lawn.

They enjoyed food and drink, while listening to live music performed by The Marine Corps Band New Orleans, and The Navy Band New Orleans.

Participants say it was the perfect way to ease into a long, relaxing weekend.

“This is good, this is nice,” Heather Stewart said. “The weather is beautiful, people are good, it’s nice.” “It’s a good way to celebrate Pre-4th.”

“It’s good and I’m military too so I’m glad to see everyone come out and support and celebrate 4th of July and kids and everybody having fun and just a great family atmosphere and it’s really good energy,” Bruce Armond said.

The celebration was punctuated by a spectacular fireworks display around 9pm.

The festivities were free to the public.
