Jefferson Parish deputies say 16-year-old Trey Stahl of Marrero was shot and killed at 2026 James Drive in Marrero.

Officers say it happened around 1AM.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim, along with an individual identified as Christian Cardon, W/M, 23, of Gretna were inside of a friends home in the company of  three additional males and a female when the shooting occurred.  Cardon told investigators he was showing the group a recently purchased AR-15 semi-auto rifle when it discharged.  Cardon stated he left the weapon’s magazine in his vehicle prior to bringing it into the home, however, he claimed he didn’t realize the weapon had a live round in the chamber.  As he was handling the weapon Cardon told investigators he pulled the trigger in an attempt to clear the weapon causing it to discharge, striking the victim.

As this investigation continues, Christian Cardon, who admitted firing the weapon was booked this morning with one count of Negligent Homicide.
