The Family Center of Hope on St Charles Avenue hosted a crime fighting summit on Thursday. Organizers billed it as an effort to stop the violence. The brain storming session was inspired, in part, by the Mother’s Day shooting.
Participants looked at various ways people could help battle violent crime in New Orleans.
“It’s not just one single program out there that is going to stem the tide of violence. It’s going to take our collective genius. It’s going to take patience,” said the center’s Pat Watson. “It’s going to take setting our attitudes and turfs on the side to really work with this population.”
The group is hoping to come up with a strategy among police and community leaders that will also restore the confidence of citizens, especially crime victims.
