lsuOne day after a 2-1 loss to UCLA in the opening round of the College World Series, LSU head coach Paul Mainieri has had time to reflect.

Mainieri said the 8 days between games hurt his ballclub.

Mainieri compared LSU’s dilemma to what happened to Detroit in the 2012 World Series. The Tigers were six days between games after beating the New York Yankees. The San Francisco Giants promptly swept the Tigers in 4 games to win the championship.

“Things will be more normal tomorrow,” said Mainieri. “Playing the second game Sunday night, we weren’t able to take batting practice. It should be a great game. The Number 1 seed in the tournament (North Carolina) against the team that is number one in the polls (LSU),

The game winning run was scored in the 8th by the Bruins when LSU shortstop Alex Bregman booted a ground ball. The ball rolled into the outfield, allowing pinch runner Christoph Bono to score from second base.

“I have been thinking about it ,” said Bregman. “I want the same ball hit to me again.”

LSU will start lefthander Cody Glenn against North Carolina. Glenn, who was suspended for the regionals for an unspecified team violation, hasn’t pitched since May 22nd.

Glenn threw 7 shutout innings in the SEC tournament against Alabama.
