Geismer Plant Explosion

Friday afternoon, it was announced that a second worker died related to the injuries he received in the Geismar plant explosion.

He’s identified as 47-year-old Scott Thrower of St Amant.

Thursday, 29-year-old Zachary Green of Hammond died from injuries he sustained in the blast.

The explosion also injured 77 people.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the accident.

The company that owns the plant, Williams Olefins, says the accident poses no threat to the environment.

“We worked with the LDEQ, we did air monitoring in the area surrounding the facility, and to the best of my knowledge all of those test results were non-detect. They weren’t able to detect any material leaving the plant,” said plant manager Larry Bayer during a news conference to update reporters on measures being taken at the plant since Thursday’s explosion.
