Tonight it’s business as usual at a Bourbon Street bar and burrito shop. This after a possibly pregnant woman was caught on camera pulling out a gun over a daiquiri. Vanessa Bolano says it’s a reminder you’ll never know what you’ll encounter on Bourbon Street.
“It happened right here,” says Karen Leon.
The 19-year-old has been working at Rico’s Drunken Burrito only six months. Early Sunday morning she got her first lesson on just how unpredictable working on Bourbon Street can be.
“She grabbed it and she was just doing this and trying to pull it,” says Leon.
A surveillance camera caught a woman dressed in red as she opened a purse and pulled out a silver gun. The woman begins to wave around the gun and Leon says she threatened to shoot.
“I couldn’t believe it. That was my first time ever seeing something like that, like right in front of me,” says Leon.
Police say the suspect may be pregnant.
Stanson Jordan works next door. He isn’t shocked.
“In these two blocks, between the 400 and 300 block, there’s always crazy stuff going on. Even though there’s cops out here, but there’s a lot of shady characters that hang out in these two blocks,” says Jordan, “It makes me scared because that means that a lot more people out there just have guns on them.”
Leon says everyone inside Rico’s Drunken Burrito was calm. She says most customers didn’t even know what was going on.
“We had a customer at the counter. She was worrying about her food. She didn’t even know what was happening,” says Leon, “It was just another night at work.”
