Clutch hits, victory evade Zephyrs vs Omaha

zephyrs-277×177Xavier Nady hit a three run fourth inning homer as the Omaha Storm Chasers beat the Zephyrs 7-3 Monday afternoon at Zephyr Field.

12 hits by New Orleans were wasted as the Zephyrs’ three game win streak ended.

New Orleans scored one run in the 5th, but should have scored more. New Orleans had the bases loaded with no outs. Ed Lucas struck out. Kevin Kouzmanoff then flied out to shallow right. Rightfielder Anthony Seratelli then doubled off the runner at first to end the inning.

With a win, New Orleans would have reached the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Omaha’s Johnny Giavotella, who prepped at Jesuit and played his college baseball at UNO, had two hits in four at bats. He scored two runs.

Zephyrs starter A.J. Battisto (1-1) took the loss, allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits in 5.1 innings.
