The city’s first women’s arena football team is gearing up for the up coming season.
33-athletes make up the team of dedicated players.
We caught up with the newly formed team Tuesday during practice at Pontchartrain Park.
“I’m looking forward to a tough season; I don’t think it will be a cakewalk,” said linebacker Shawn Smith. “It’s a very physical sport and it will try you mentally and physically.”
“We’re not out here just being cute, doing a little touch; we actually tackle,” running back Kayla Martin said.
The season begins in June.
The team’s first home game will be played in Kenner at the Pontchartrain Center.
