Wednesday night, New Orleans police closed a section of Magazine Street from Calliope to Andrew Higgins after a suspicious device found near the WWII Museum.

Crews on scene say the device was an unattended bag with some suspicious material near Magazine and Calliope, just feet away from the museum.

The department’s bomb squad and homeland security workers also responded to the scene.  A robot was also brought to the scene in the event the device needed to be detonated.

At the time, the museum had already closed for the day, but its American Sector restaurant remained open.

By 10:00, police had taken control of the device and the area returned to its normal traffic flow.
