Brother Martin scored two without a hit in the bottom of the 6th inning to edge Denham Springs 3-2 in the second round of the 5A playoffs Monday night at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Denham Springs took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the 6th on a two out solo home run from Kaleb Clarke. Clarke’s blast was a line drive over the left field fence off Brother Martin starter Corey Giaconi.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Crusaders rallied.

With one out Bryce Johnston walked.

Blake Battle then hit a grounder to shortstop Wes Brown, who bobbled the ball for an error. Jacob Seward was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Daniel Lahare then hit a grounder to second. The first baseman did not get over in time to cover the bag. Johnston scored to tie the game.

Cody Ducote then capped the rally with a sacrifice fly that scored Battle.

Brother Martin won its 30th game of the season. The Crusaders, the lone metro area team in the 5a quarterfinals, will play Sam Houston Friday at Tulane’s Turchin Stadium.

Jesuit, Destrehan, and Covington all lost their second round games.
