The St. Margaret’s at Mercy community home opened in Mid-City Tuesday.
Around 100 people now live in the renovated property on Jefferson Davis Parkway.
The site is the former home of the Lindy Boggs Medical Center that flooded during Hurricane Katrina.
The first floor of the building is for people living with ALS.
“This building will allow people with ALS to remain independent, productive and purposeful as well as providing poor, frail elderly with a comfortable environment in which to live out their golden years.” Said St. Margaret’s at Mercy CEO Larry Stansberry.
The old location for St. Margaret’s in the 9th ward also flooded in Katrina.
